What's In Season - Weekly Newsletter #2

Order by Noon Monday for Wednesday delivery or pickup.

SUNDAY, JULY 31st, 2022

I think it's official: peak season is here! We have Sweet Corn, Peaches, Mini Cucumbers...and Heirloom Tomatoes are starting! Unfortunately, due to those crazy hot days a few weeks back, our current lettuce patch bolted and became bitter. (That often happens this time of year.) However, our next patch of lettuce is looking great and should be ready in a week or two.

New this week is Cherry Belle and French Breakfast Radishes, Arugula and Scarlet Frills, Mini Cucumbers and sweet Early Magic Plums. Peaches are fantastic so far--very sweet and delicious! And, we should be moving on to our next field of Sweet Corn soon. Arugula and Frills are marked as 'imperfect' as they have some bug damage, but that's because they are un-sprayed! Keep an eye out for peppers and eggplant starting in a couple of weeks as well.

Also, take a look at our Market Bundles this week! They're great deals, and I post an accompanying recipe on our site!

Thanks to all of you who have become Market Subscribers so far! I'll be sending an email out to you to help with navigating your new pages. And, for those of you who have not yet checked out our Market Subscription plans, they are super easy. You can opt to schedule your boxes or just swap for Market Credit. If you're looking to shop The Market and choose your own like you have in past years, Swapping for Market Credit is basically the same as our set up last year. The only difference is that you have to enter in your Market Coupon Code at checkout. Scheduling boxes is not required.

We have 19 planned weeks left to the season, however, we will likely keep going until the 21st of December. Signing up for even our smallest Market Subscription will grant you access to our choose-your-own box for the entire season, including any extra weeks at the end of the year.

Thanks so much for your interest in our farm We look forward to growing for you!

All the best,

Nicole Centgraf

RECIPES OF THE WEEK

Radicchio and Friseé Endive can be difficult greens to prepare. As both are considered chicories (in the Dandelion family), they are naturally quite bitter. However, a 15 minute ice bath before preparation, sweetens them up nicely, bringing out their complex and delicious flavors! Braising your "bitter greens" also helps to mellow them out.

This recipe is fantastic as gorgonzola, walnuts and citrus go wonderfully with chicory! A zesty dish to perk up a week-day dinner!

Cherry Tomato Couscous Salad I've tried a few salads like this and I'm excited about the roasted cherry tomatoes! It looks like a great combo of tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, lemon and feta. And, since it has roasted chickpeas in it, I know my kids will eat it...my kids are in love with chickpeas! Check out our Market Bundles on the Add-On Market page. There's a direct link in The Market Menu.
