What's In Season - Weekly Newsletter #12

August 28th, 2021

Goodness, it's muddy out here!

As is the trend this season, after another long dry spell, we got four heavy rains in a row! Now, our fields (and we) are a muddy mess. But, our veggies (for the most part, are happy to get the drink!

Despite the dramatic swings in weather, new items are still coming in every day! Our new lettuce patch is starting with our cute Tom Thumb Mini Bibb. Soon, we should have some Bunched Lettuce and Salad Mix again. Our super Hot Habenero and our super Sweet Red and Yellow Peppers have begun. And, we now have Loose, Bulk Carrots listed in The Market.

We have a gap in plantings of our regular Cherry Belle and Easter Egg Radishes, but fortunately, our gorgeous Winter Radishes have begun. If you haven't had a chance to try them yet--they are phenomenal sliced thinly with salt and olive oil! They're still on the smaller side now, so we're selling them mixed by the bunch.

We have a very wide selection of fruit this week! Besides our mouth-watering Goddess Cantaloupe, our MI farmer is providing us with Early Honey Crisp Apples, White Peaches, Italian Prune Plumes, Bartlett Pears, Doughnut Peaches, Nectarines, Raspberries, and Blackberries, in addition to their regular Blueberries and Freestone Red Haven Peaches! Now is certainly the time to indulge in some delicious fresh fruit!

Also, regarding the post-Labor Day week: We will keep The Market open for orders until Tuesday noon since many of you will be busy with fun family/friends events on Monday. Deliveries and pickups will instead be on Wednesday evening, September 8th. We'll be on our normal schedule this week.

Enjoy your weekend!

Family Favorite Winter

Radish Salad

There's lots of wonderful Watermelon Radish Salad recipes out there, but, honestly, the simplest preparation is best for these delights!

Simply scrub your radishes, slice them almost paper thin with a mandoline (no need to peel your radish if you wash them well), salt and drizzle with olive oil. Let them sit for 5-10 minutes to soften.

Besides being delicious, this was my go-to dish when I was trying to lose baby weight!

Find our Winter Radish Mix in this week's Farmer Knows Best Box or order them a la carte with the "I Got It" Box.
